This Week in Chicago Entertainment History ~ Frances McDormand

FonduTV would like to take this weeks history of the month to actress Frances McDormand.  She was born in Chicago in 1957 although she later lived in Pittsburgh which is where the family settled.  Frances was adopted by a Canadian minister and his wife eh!  Living on the east coast she eventually grew up to receive an MFA at Yale University! Go Frances!

As a true actress she got her start onstage and she continues to tap into that whenever possible. Her stage roles eventually lead her to her first film “Blood Simple” which was where she met her husband Joel Coen.  He’s not such a bad guy to become acquianted with as she received an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1996 for her role in “Fargo” where she played pregnant police chief Marge Gunderson investigating a series of homicides.

Watch for her  in the third “Transformers 3″  which began filming in Chicago on July 4th and is due out next summer.

Here is the clip from her 1996 Oscar winning speech!

Some fun facts about Frances McDormand:

Has an adopted son from Paraguay

Her performance as “Marge Gunderson” in Fargo (1996) is ranked #27 on Premiere Magazine’s 100 Greatest Movie Characters of All Time.

She was once roomies with Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, Sam Raimi & Scott Spiegel (Evil Dead Series) & Holly Hunter
