This Week in Chicago Entertainment History: Bob Newhart

This week FonduTV is bringing you one of Televisions beloved actors Bob Newhart.   He was born in 1929 and was raised in Oak Park however he attended Loyola University right here in Chicago where he graduated in 1954.  After earning his degree and serving in Korea he had a short lived career as an accountant.

Newhart soon became an advertising copywriter for an independent film and television producer in Chicago named Fred A. Niles.  He got his start  by sending in comedy routines to a local radio station and eventually signed with Warner Bros. Records in 1959. We love him because he makes us laugh even today in hit movies such as ‘Elf’ in 2003.

I’m sure many Chicagoans already know about his honorary statue at Navy Pier but it’s worth mentioning anyways. In 2004 a bronze statue was dedicated to Bob Newhart on Michigan Avenue before moving to his permanent home at the Pier.

Mr. Newhart is quite the inspiration with three television shows named after him; ‘The Newhart Show’, ‘Newhart’ & ‘Bob’.  Out of the three ‘Newhart’ had to be one of the best shows on television and everyone loved Larry, Darryl and Darryl. The    FonduTV.com made a search for our favorite characters that came out of this show (besides Newhart of course) and we think you will really like it!

FonduTV.com would like to salute this incredible entertainer and thank him for all the laughs that he continues to give us.
